My stark epiphany after some Astro viewing, is the remarkable non-uniformity of space.
Also, a new thought, some Constellations may not be near to "each other" at all. Some stars might be 200 light years away, and others in the same Constellation may be 50 light years away.
But here is the key --- Modern atronomy is an offshoot of the rich and powerful paying people to search for comets -- but why this focus on comets?
1)Bragging rights? My scientists kick your French scientists butt?
2) Or more for societal control? Being able to predict a comet would make people believe the rulers had super powers?
3) Or as a reasonable prediction of disasters to come. I did work years back that correlated fast moving space rocks (comets) with really large earthquakes on Earth.

Comets Demystified, Asteroids Discovered
Until the emergence of modern astronomy in the 1500s and 1600s, comets remained mysterious and frightening signs of disastrous or extraordinary events. The noted Protestant leader Martin Luther, who died in 1546, stated the common view. He was aware of the writings of Greeks like Aristotle and Romans like Seneca, who had held that comets result from natural processes. Luther flat out rejected the ideas of these "heathens," or nonbelievers in Christianity, saying, "The heathen writes that the comet may arise from natural causes; but God creates not one [comet] that does not foretoken a sure calamity."8
